I remember…
When the small children used to come to our house because I had frozen Capri Suns.
When the small children got older and started playing basketball at the house with their shirts off.
When it was cool to hang out at our house because we had every video console available.
When the teens used to come over because I always had hamburgers, fries, and pizza.
When I was the cool parent on the field trips.
When my kids actually wanted me to go on field trips.
When my kids friends called me “mama Tracy”
When my kids always wanted to do something with the family on weekends.
When my kids wanted to be home.
When my kids needed me more.
Now they are driving and living on their own. I can’t keep them home with Capri Suns or free burgers. While I miss that they need me, I am so proud that they are finding themselves and creating their own lives. They are becoming independent and isn’t that what I was supposed to do?
Now when we play Monopoly or Sequence it means a little more. Now when they choose to stay home for the weekend or go on vacation it means so much.
Now if I can just get them to pay rent…
